Dozens of toys donated to local foster families at JRG Under the Tree

Despite a chilly, windy night, hundreds of people came out for the Jonesboro Radio Group and CASA Sponsor night at Christmas at the Park in Jonesboro.

On this particular night, Christmas at the Park partnered with CASA to host a toy drive. Guests were encouraged to bring an unopened toy to be donated to foster families in the area.

In total, 84 toys and $367.94 was raised for children in our surrounding foster homes.

ABOUT CHRISTMAS AT THE PARK

Christmas at the Park is a drive-through experience with 37 light displays, comprised of 399 pieces, with over 350,000 lights. It will be just over half a mile in length for the first year beginning at the entrance at Harry dr. and end at the soccer concessions stand.

We are excited to capitalize on the trees at the park to create a Snowflake Forest. Just after that, guests will drive-through a tunnel of colored lights the length of a football field. We believe this will be one of the longest, if not the longest, tunnel of lights in the United States.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in an A-State Howl and Scarlet Scavenger Hunt—looking for strategically placed and familiar images of Howl and Scarlet.

At the end, we will offer an opportunity for guests to get out of their cars, get hot chocolate at the concession stand, take pictures with our props and when available, meet Santa and take pictures with him.

Throughout the season, we’ll have event nights where we showcase the top sponsors who have come along side us to support Christmas at the Park. An event night is an evening where a sponsor brings their team and creative ideas to connect with guests.

We’ll also have events throughout the season like a community caroling night close to Christmas and fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

One thing that has been important to us is for this attraction—right from day one—is that it be not only a fun evening for folks of all ages but be something that benefits our community in other ways too. The first weekend we’re open, we’ll give free admission to all DCFS foster homes in the surrounding eight counties, in early December we will have a Toy Drive, and in mid-December we will have a food drive benefiting The Northeast Arkansas Food Bank. Also, all the proceeds from the concession stand will benefit the City Stars Youth sports programs.
