Winners of $30K Business Boost announced

The Jonesboro Radio Group has always wanted to and has made a huge effort to serve and care for our community. We care deeply for our local businesses and want to watch them succeed and grow, but the recent shutdowns and social distancing measures over the past couple of months has forced many of those businesses into a reduced income or to close entirely.

Now that those same businesses are slowly trying to get back to normal, they haven’t had the funds available on-hand to advertise and let people know about changes in their business, specials they have, and new health procedures in place. That’s why we introduced the Jonesboro Radio Group $30,000 Business Boost, sponsored by Cavenaugh Auto Group.

The $30,000 Business Boost was created to give three local business owners the chance to receive free advertising from the Jonesboro Radio Group and give them peace-of-mind in knowing that they will not have to worry about paying for marketing expenses while they regroup and return to business.

On May 19, Jonesboro Radio Group drew the three winners in this sweepstakes and met with each owner to surprise them with the news in person.

THIRD PLACE

The third-place award went to HiJinx, a family-friendly entertainment center with a bowling alley, laser tag, several arcade games, private party rooms, and more. This prize was $5,000 in advertising costs.

“It’s been hard,” said Owner and Manager Stacey Blaxton. “I mean, eight weeks and one day we’ve been shut down, and I went from 53 employees, and I won’t even have… Let’s see. We had 38 that came back and trained, but I’ll be lucky. Right now, I only have 15.”

HiJinx has partially re-opened and is committed to maintaining all guidelines set by the State of Arkansas, CDC, and local health agencies. The business will close every two hours to sanitize and disinfect the center, including bowling balls, chairs, table, restrooms, lasertron, sky trail rope course, and arcade games.

“The one thing about it – we have a community that reaches out, and we stand above all the other communities. I’m not trying to say that we’re snobby. I’m saying that we come together when times are tough, and you guys have always stood behind us, and we appreciate that,” she added.

When you enter the building, you will notice plastic screens and plexiglass throughout the different play areas. Bowling is operating at half capacity with plastic curtains between each seating area; groups will have an entire seating area to themselves for one lane of play. Five hand sanitizing stations are also available throughout the center, and all patrons must wear a mask while inside.

Current hours of operation as follows until further notice:

  • Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
  • Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Special hours are from Wednesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Seniors and people underlying medical conditions, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for League Bowlers.

Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged. You may make reservations by calling (870) 972-5270.

SECOND PLACE

Jonesboro Travel Cruise & Tour came in second, earning $10,000 in free Jonesboro Radio Group advertising.

“Going back to booking from the third quarter of last year, understandably, we had to cancel [travel packages]. It’s like returning their items. It’s like if you had a dress shop and everybody lined up and returned everything they bought from you…” said Co-Owner and Travel Consultant Amy Cantin.

Since social distancing guidelines have been put in place, Cantin and co-owner Larinda Rainwater said they have been visiting the regular travelers from the Jonesboro Travel Family just to hold up signs in their clients’ driveways just to let them know that they were missed and to drop off care packages with hand sanitizers and other treats.

“They are absolutely over-the-moon thrilled about it,” described Rainwater. “…They’re extended family to us. We’re about to go to Walnut Ridge this week and Trumann to see those people. We’ve done two days’ worth of Jonesboro. We go in our van – the Sandals Van with the beach scene on it, and they just get tickled to death. We’ve just been trying to let everybody know that we’ve been thinking about you [sic].”

FIRST PLACE

In first place, was Quraishi Law Firm & Wealth Management. Winning the top prize, Carrie Quraishi, Esq., was presented with a free advertising budget of $15,000.

“Oh my gosh! That will come in handy with everything that’s been going on,” Quraishi exclaimed as she was presented with her prize. “We have a lot of older clients, and they’re not wanting to come in in person.”

Quraishi has dedicated her practice to helping others with estate planning. She earned her undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University, graduating cum laude with a degree in finance, and her Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. She is also associated with WealthCounsel, Texas Young Lawyers Association, and Financial Planning Association.

She is licensed to practice Law in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas.

“A lot people are realizing the need to have their estate planning in order,” she explained as she talked about her business. “Especially those healthcare workers and first responders, so we actually have been running some discounts and everything, trying to get these people in… This is so important, so this will really go a long way in helping us help other people.”

OTHER EFFORTS

The $30,000 Business Boost is just another of many examples of our commitment to serve our clients and our communities, to believe in our clients and our communities, and to be Jonesboro Strong.

In order to do our part, Jonesboro Radio Group has given out announcements on the air, reminding listeners of the value of local businesses and the need to support them during this time. In addition, we’ve created the #JonesboroStrong slogan and JonesboroStrong.com website to support local restaurants and services.

We’ve also been working with clients to create custom campaigns designed to share specific messages to their audiences while producing supportive and motivating messages to encourage businesses and residents.

Thankfully, our country is slowly re-emerging from isolation, and as we adjust to the new normal, we will still be here, helping others rebuild and lending a hand to those who need it. Our sales team is out now, contacting other great businesses who entered the $30,000 Business Boost to discuss other ways we can help.

We do all of this because we love Jonesboro and surrounding communities. This is our home, too, and we want to do our part to make it shine. We are committed to your success. If you would like to schedule a consultation with one of our highly capable account executives, email results@jradiogroup.com.
